讲座摘要:

Dr. Awopegba will present the importance of early care and education from four perspectives including brain development, early experiences, multiple benefits for the child and society and rates of return to human capital investment. Afterwards, she will describe the global trends of early childhood education and early childhood in the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Elements such as pre-primary school access, and professional development of workforce will be included. Then, she will introduce ECCE in sub Saharan Africa and efforts of UNESCO to improve quality of ECCE. Finally, she will put forward suggestions to promote ECE in Africa.

 

主讲嘉宾介绍:

Dr. Patience Awopegba, PhD, is an Education Specialist in UNESCO and currently working at the Regional Office for Southern Africa, Harare, Zimbabwe. Her research and training interests includes economics of education, education planning and management, early childhood care and education, gender issues in development, strategic leadership, population and education nexus, and teacher development issues. In collaboration with early childhood development experts in Africa during her work at the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA), she has ensured the development of seven modules of indigenous early childhood care and education (IECCE) for interested users in Africa. This initiative is to contribute to the effort in expanding ECCE services to the vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in the African region.
