Introduction of SMILE

Shanghai Municipal Institute for Lifelong Education (SMILE) was established in July, 2012. It is an institute founded by East China Normal University with the authorization from Shanghai Municipal Education Commission based on the document of “2012 Summary of Construction of National Education Reform Experimental Area by Joint Leading Team of Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government”. As the first research institute for lifelong education in China, SMILE aims to become a national as well as local level think tank that provides thoughts, theories, and strategies for construction of learning society and development of lifelong education, and a communicative platform for international exchange and cooperation in the fields. The implementation strategies of SMILE are research, policy-making consultation, capacity building and international communication.
