Kyushu University-ECNU Academic Exchange Meeting on Education Held Successfully

From 4th to 5th March, a 16-member delegation of Kyushu University, Japan, led by Professor Nomura (野野村淑子), Associate Professor Kimura Takuya, and Dr. Chen Sicong visited the Faculty of Education.

On 4th March, Yang Fuyi (Director of the International Affairs Division of Faculty of Education) warmly welcomed the delegation. After a brief review of the bilateral collaborations and exchange programs in recent years, Professor Yang Fuyi gave a lecture on “The Development of Special Education in China”. The audience had a heated discussion about the topic.

On 5th March, Professor Wu Zunmin from Department of Education Science hosted the meeting. Prof. Nomura who majors in History of Education, lectured on “Children and Family from a Historical Perspective”. She introduced the policy trends of Japanese family education, the power of modern families, issues of children, and raised some thought-provoking questions. Then, Professor Wang Baoxing from Department of Education, ECNU lectured on “Classical Tradition of Western Educational Philosophy”, discussing the tradition of liberal education, the tradition of city-state education, the inheritance and transcendence of the classical tradition of western educational philosophy.

In the afternoon, Associate Professor Zhang Huijie from the Institute of Educational Assessment held the meeting. Associate Professor Kimura Takuya gave a lecture on “National University Admission System and Equality: Talking about Japanese Experience”, delving into the “adaptability” and “equality” of admission system.

Associate Professor Li Lin from Department of Education lectured on “Examination and Talent Selection in Late Imperial China: Exploring a Common Heritage of East Asian Education”. In the end, Associate Professor Zhang Huijie held a discussion on the development of examination system in China and Japan.

During the visit, the delegation enjoyed a campus tour including ECNU History Museum. They also visited Qixing School in Putuo District with the company of International Affairs Division staff, observing school percussion band performances and Special Olympics training, and visiting the housekeeping room, training room, computer room, etc. to know about special education in China.
The Faculty of Education has conducted three consecutive years of academic exchange activities with Kyushu University, covering a wide range and in-depth exchange of research areas. Both sides expressed their continuous supports for promoting such activities and collaborations, which benefit more staff and students.
