Louise C. Wilkinson is a Distinguished Professor of Education, Psychology, and Communication Sciences at Syracuse University. She an is educational psychologist who has focused her research on language and literacy learning among young and school-age children; in particular, those for whom English is an additional language. Professor Wilkinson’s recent research addresses the relationship between mathematics and language learning, and students’ acquiring the mathematics register, the more specific language of academic discipline. An internationally recognized leader in education, she is best known for her extensive research on children’s language and literacy learning and has published in more than 150 articles, chapters and volumes. She teaches courses on literacy learning for first/second English language learners and on childhood education. She co-chaired Literacy Leadership for Urban Teacher Education: A Commission of the International Reading Association and has held visiting professorships at East China Normal University, Brown University, and Kings College-University of London. She holds a B.A. in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude with Honors from Oberlin College; and holds both the Ed.M. and Ed.D. (Human Development) from Harvard University. Currently, she is cooperating with us as a visiting professor.
