In the morning of Nov.8, specially invited experts at home and abroad attended the round table meeting on the theme of “core competence”, and conducted a high-level academic dialogue with scholars of our institute. They discussed important issues such as how to understand students’ core competence, what core competence can be trained in primary and secondary schools, and how to design courses based on core competence. The meeting was presided over by Professor Yang Xiangdong. Experts discussed the connotation of core competence in different cultural backgrounds and curriculum construction based on core competence. Finally, all participants reached a preliminary consensus: The concept of core competence should be defined more clearly and more thoughts should be given to the design and details of instructional change on this basis.
