On November 23rd
-24th, 2016, the founding conference of Teacher Trainers Union of The Chinese Society of Education”- the first “Teacher Trainers Professional Development Forum”, organized by China Educational Institution and co-organized by East China Normal University and Shanghai association of Education, was successfully held on ECNU’s campus. More than 800 representatives from different departments, such as The Ministry of Education, The Chinese Society of Education, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, East China Normal University, and Educational Schools of each district were present at the conference.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice President of ECNU, Dai Liyi in the morning of the 23rd. President of ECNU, Chen Qun, Director of Department of Teacher Education of Ministry of Education, Huang Wei, Vice Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Wang Ping, Vice President and Secretary of The Chinese Society of Education, Yang Nianlu, all delivered speeches.

Chen Qun firstly extended congratulations to the conference and forum, and then expressed that training professionalism was urgently needed to strengthen the teacher training construction. Based on this fact, ECNU and Shanghai Educational Institution jointly prompted to set up the “Teacher Trainers Union of The Chinese Society of Education“, so as to provide a communicative platform, research base and systematic solution plan for teacher trainers professional development.

Huang Wei, as a representative of The Ministry of Education, Teacher Work Division, extended gratitude to the Chinese Society of Education and other organizers. He emphasized that with the teachers’ requirement for training efficiency being improved, teachers’ current condition, the real demand and development direction should be highlighted along with the national policy support and financial support should be well used to help overcome the possible problems.

As a representative of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Wang Ping also showed his congratulation to the establishment of “Teacher Trainers Union of The Chinese Society of Education“. He pointed out that Shanghai Municipal Education Commission has always been concerned about teachers’ professional development. In recent years, Shanghai education has shown a vigorous development trend, which benefits from the overall improvement of policies, systems and surroundings for teacher training. Shanghai has put “improving teacher trainers program” in “Implementation of Shanghai ‘thirteenth five-year’ Elementary and Secondary, Kindergarten, Vocational School Teacher Training Work”.

Yang Nianlu responded to three concerned questions: The reason, the expectation and the goal of establishing such a union. He figured out that there is a lack of support for teacher trainers. The union was set up to provide a platform for related research, communication and practice. By offering conversation opportunities, a research base and systematic resolution plan, as well as exploring efficient ways to develop teacher trainers professionalism, in order for the challenges to be solved and teacher trainers profession dream to be realized.

The Launching Ceremony of “China Educational Institution of Teacher Trainers Union”
First, Yang Nianlu announced the establishment of “Teacher Trainers Union of The Chinese Society of Education“. Then, Union Chairman Yin Houqing, Union Advisor Yuan Zhenguo, Wu Yingmin, Union Secretary Zhu Ting, Deputy Secretary Yan Hanbing, Zhou Zengwei and representatives from Shanghai Teacher Training Center, Shandong Teacher Training Center, Beijing Normal University, Northeast Normal University, Central China Normal University, Shanxi Normal University, Southwest University, Northwest Normal University, Shanghai Normal University and other colleges jointly launched the video of “China Educational Institution of Teacher Trainers Union”. More than 800 participants witnessed the historical moment.

The goal of training is to make every teacher competitive and find happiness from their teaching career.

Union Advisor Yuan Zhenguo gave a report on the historical transformation of teacher training. He put up several views: firstly, teacher training work should be professionalized to improve teacher professional development; secondly, teacher training should be specialized; thirdly, teacher training should be comprehensive; fourthly, resource platform, intelligent management and interactive communities should be attached great importance; last but not least, school-based training is an effective way but the conception should not be misunderstood.
