The Chinese Discourse System of Pedagogy Seminar Is Held at ECNU

On April 23, the Faculty of Education, ECNU organized the Chinese Discourse of Pedagogy Seminar. Xie Chao, director of the Shanghai Association of Social Sciences, and director of the Office of the Academic Discourse System of the Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences, Wu Ruijun, director of the Social Science Division of ECNU, Yuan Zhenguo, dean of the Faculty of Education, Li Zhengtao, deputy dean of the Faculty of Education and more than ten experts and scholars attended the seminar. The seminar was presided over by Professor Li Zhengtao.

Xie Chao points out in his speech that as the I-category High-Peak discipline in Shanghai and the national first-rate discipline construction unit, the education discipline in East China Normal University needs to assume the task of constructing a pedagogic Chinese discourse system. The key now is to focus on “how to construct” this operational level, organize a top-level team of experts inside and outside the school to solve the problem together, and take this work on as a career.

Wu Ruijun said in his speech that the education discipline is the vanguard of the scientific research team of the Chinese discourse system of Philosophy and Social Sciences in our university. We should take the lead and make a difference. It is necessary to further focus on the research field and sort out the research plan based on the existing research and consider this issue at the national level.

Yuan Zhenguo said that the Faculty of Education should play a vital role in the “construction of the Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy.” The most important thing is to to stand at the height of the “human destiny community” to carry out discussions and researches. We should also discuss and define the concepts of “China, Chinese discourse, and Chinese discourse system” in the field of pedagogy and emphasize the unification of historical tradition, the spirit of the times, and future trends.

At the seminar, Professor Ke Zheng, director of the Department of Scientific Research of the Faculty of Education, Professor Yang Fuyi, director of the International Affairs Department, Professor Yang Xiaowei, Director of the Institute of Basic Education and Reform, Professor Wang Lunxin, Professor Shuguang Huang, Professor Li Lin, Dr. Gao Xingyuan of the Department of Education, Professor Li Mei of the Institute of Higher Education, Professor Peng Zhengmei, director of the Institute of International and Comparative Education, Deputy Director Zheng Taiian, Professor Zhu Junwen of the Department of Education Management, and other experts and scholars exchanged their ideas on “Why, what is it and how to construct, research and disseminate the Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy?”

It is reported that in order to implement the spirit of the important speech made by the General Secretary Xi Jinping at the symposium on Philosophy and Social Sciences, the East China Normal University established the “Center for Research on the Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy”, which serves as a non-entity research institution anchored in the Faculty of Education and devotes itself to the research of “Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy.” This is the first research institute devoted to promote the research of Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy as a whole.

In the summary, Li Zhengtao put forward the working assumption and ideas for the follow-up research. First, it is necessary to further focus on the topic and carry out in-depth research; the second is to strengthen the dialogue with other disciplines, educational practitioners and domestic and foreign scholars; the third is to promote the construction of the Chinese discourse system of the Pedagogy research base and organize experts and scholars at home and abroad to participate in the research. He further stated that the “Center for Research on Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy” should help ECNU become a “research center” for the study of the Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy, live up to the time and commitment, make due contributions to accelerate the construction of the Chinese discourse system of Pedagogy with Chinese characteristics and Shanghai characteristics.
