New Book Launch of Ye Lan’s Monograph in Its English Version and International Seminar are Held at ECNU

Ye Lan, the lifetime professor at ECNU, has recently published her monograph “Reoccurrence and Breakthrough: An Outline of “Life · Practice” in its English Version which is under the support of the Chinese Social Science Foundation.

On May 14th, the “Life · Practice” Research Institute of Education and the China Higher Education Press co-hosted “The Conference of China’s Pedagogy to the World: ‘Reoccurrence and Breakthrough: An Outline of the ‘Life · Practice’ Pedagogy’ (English version) and International Seminar” at East China Normal University. Tong Shijun, general secretary of the Party Committee of ECNU, Jiang Hongbo, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Shanghai Education and Health Party Committee, Yuan Zhenguo, dean of the Faculty of Education, and Wang Haiping, general secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Education, were present. Educational researchers from the United States, Canada, China, and Hong Kong, and principals from top schools and representatives of relevant media attended the seminar.

At the seminar, Michael Connelly, the author of the English prologue of the new book and the professor of the University of Toronto, Canada, Dr Li Lijuan of the Hong Kong Institute of Education, the translator of the English version and Professor Bai Jerry, editor-in-chief of the “Brill of the Netherlands and Chinese Educator Book Series” spoke in succession.

Subsequently, Professor Cheryl Craig of American Texas A&M University, Professor Wang Haiping, Professor Ding Gang of the Faculty of Education of ECNU, Professor Wu Jing of the Department of Politics, Professor Wang Zhan of Guangxi Normal University, Professor Liu Tiefang of Hunan Normal University spoke and discussed with the participants freely. Everyone believed that the “life and practice” pedagogy that has both school practice, philosophical thinking, and theory and practice has strength, temperature, and character. It is able to go abroad and “stand up”, has its own unique academic character and is able to solve China’s practical problems and contemporary difficulties. It stems from the theory originator’s own life consciousness, academic personality and power of creation.
