Prof. G. Williamson (Bill) McDiarmid of the University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill visits Shangrao Normal College

On October 9 to 11, 2016, with the suggestion of Ren Youqun, deputy secretary of the party committee of East China Normal University and deputy mayor of Jiangxi Shangrao City Party Committee, while also under the organization of Faculty of Education of East China Normal University, Professor McDiarmid from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, G. Williamson (Bill) was invited to visit Jiangxi Shangrao Teachers College and carryout academic communication activities.

Professor McDiarmid, introduced recent reforms of teacher education in the United States, the divergent views of policy makers and educators on problem resolution, and the ongoing reform efforts of the United States. Teachers and students were deeply attracted by McDiarmid’s humorous lecture. After the lecture, Professor McDiarmid started a discussion and interaction with the teachers and students and both teachers and students unanimously said that Professor McDiarmid’s lecture was so educational that they benefited a lot.

During the period, Professor McDiarmid also visited Zhuzi Institute of Shangrao Normal College. Prof. Xu Gongxi, director of Institute of Zhuzi, gave a detailed introduction to the history and research achievements of the Institute, and presented Professor McDiarmid with a scholarly study on Zhu’s research.

The success of this academic exchange activity promoted a cooperative relationship between the Faculty of Education of East China Normal University and the Academy of Educational Sciences of Shangrao Normal University and laid the foundation for more academic exchange activities in the future.
